French UGC video ads with AI: launching in France, Belgium, Switzerland and Quebec
How to make UGC-style video ads in French with AI: native scripts instead of translations, tone and register, captions, and the claim rules to respect.

French is spoken across several large ad markets, from France and Belgium to Switzerland, Quebec and much of Africa. Many brands still serve these audiences English creatives with subtitles, or a French translation of an English script. Ads written for a French speaker convert better, and AI makes it practical to produce them alongside your English batch.
Write in French, do not translate
Generate the French script from the product brief rather than translating the English one. Hooks rely on rhythm and idiom, and a literal translation keeps the structure of the English sentence, which a French viewer hears immediately. Have a native speaker read the approved script once, especially the first line.
Tu or vous
UGC on TikTok and Reels mostly uses “tu”: it sounds like someone talking to a friend. “Vous” feels more like a brand speaking and can suit premium, professional or older audiences. Pick one per campaign, keep it consistent across the script and captions, and consider testing both on the same angle.
Length and captions
- French usually takes more words than English to say the same thing; cut ideas rather than speeding up the voice.
- Burned-in captions matter because most viewers watch on mute; keep each caption line short enough to read at a glance.
- Check accents and punctuation in captions: French uses a space before “?”, “!” and “:”, and missing accents look careless.
Claims and disclosure
Consumer protection authorities in French-speaking markets act against misleading claims, and France also regulates commercial influence, including content featuring AI-generated people. Keep every claim substantiated, label AI-generated presenters clearly in the ad and in the platform field, and never present a synthetic presenter as a real customer.
Doing it with AdFace
AdFace writes French scripts directly from your product brief, never by translation, voices them with French voices, and renders burned-in captions in 9:16, 1:1 and 4:5. You can generate English, French and Arabic versions from the same brief in one batch, and the AdFace interface itself is available in French.
Questions this answers
- Can AdFace write for Quebec rather than France?
- Scripts are written in French for a broad francophone audience. Add the market and any local wording to the brief, edit the lines before approving them, or record the voiceover yourself if you need a specific accent.
- Should I run French ads in Belgium and Switzerland too?
- Usually yes, with the same creatives as France unless prices, delivery or claims differ. Test them as separate ad sets so you can see whether each market responds to the same hook.
